2017 brought with it a rich diversity of activities and limitless opportunities for our students. Whilst some of these have brought about unsought challenges, I believe that everything has revealed the true Loreto Spirit and the positive impact of God and people in our lives.
It was exciting to see the passion of science ignited in our students as they came up with projects which gave them an opportunity to participate in the national innovation challenge sponsored by G-Min (Global Minimum) International organization. 3 of our students qualified in the top 10 with their project ‘Waste to Watts’. They were awarded the most resilient group award and training at the University of Nairobi Prefabs Lab. This is a positive step to the call of innovation and entrepreneurship.
The Premiere of our 2 films ‘She Got Game’ and ‘Boomerang’ on Big Screen at Imax – Garden City was a historic moment for Msongari. This was aimed at moving our films beyond participation at the Kenya Drama Festivals. (We have excelled at the festivals scooping top positions in our category in the last 2 years). The debut for our films gave our students exposure to the film industry hence providing them with an important launching pad to successful acting and film production careers. We do appreciate the participation and support we received from the Kenya Film Classification Board under the leadership of Dr. Ezekiel Mutua who was our Guest of Honour at this historic event. The KFCB also sponsored 3 students and 2 teachers by providing them with air tickets to attend the International Zanzibar Film Festival which our school had been nominated to attend.
This year we have begun our celebrations of God’s faithfulness as we look forward to 2021. When we will be celebrating 100 years of Loreto’s establishment in Kenya which began with Loreto Msongari in 1921. Msongari is the root of all other Loreto Schools in the East African Province comprising of Kenya, Tanzania, Ghana, Zambia and also South Sudan Loreto schools. Indeed as our Founder Mary Ward said, ‘In time to come, women will do much’. We in Loreto say her time is now as we celebrate the growth of Loreto Schools and share the joy as we experience the fruits of our Loreto education through enriching and empowering alumni who are touching many lives in our society.
The most rewarding aspect of the Loreto education is realizing that all around are possibilities of doing good and making the world richer for you having lived in it. The size of your audience doesn’t matter. Keep up the good work.’
My message this year to you girls is to cultivate the right attitude. You have what it takes to be the best you can ever be. The most important choice you can make is to wake up every morning with the right attitude. Nothing can stop a person with the right attitude to achieve their goals/dreams. The biggest investment is your thoughts. Look inside you, what is your dream? Take the first step. Focus on your goals. Turn challenges into chances. Create your own opportunities. Be innovative, be creative. Unleash your potential. Your time is now. Live your dream.
Finally, I thank the Advisory Board, the Loreto Sisters, parents, teaching and non-teaching staff, students and well wishers for creating a beneficial partnership. Each of us has contributed to the achievements of the school. Let us keep up the synergy and God bless Msongari School.
