Rooted in Values, Rising to Greatness

At Loreto Convent Msongari, we believe that true greatness is not a destination — it is a journey. A journey anchored in values, propelled by purpose, and sustained by resilience. We are a community rooted in a rich heritage of excellence and guided by the enduring wisdom of our founder, Mary Ward, who dared to dream of a world where women would not only thrive but lead with distinction. Today, that vision continues to unfold in the lives of the young women who walk our hallways — bold, joyful, authentic, and unafraid to rise.

As a school offering both the IGCSE and 8-4-4 curricula and currently transitioning to the Competency-Based Education (CBE) system, we are uniquely placed to prepare our girls not only for academic success, but for life. In every classroom and co-curricular space, we are nurturing critical thinkers, compassionate leaders, and confident individuals ready to face the world with a solid moral compass and an unshakable sense of identity. The dual curriculum approach allows us to personalize learning, encourage exploration, and stretch potential. Whether a girl is experimenting in a chemistry lab, delivering a moving monologue on stage, composing a solo, or dribbling across the football field — she is learning to rise.

Our foundation is built on the values that Mary Ward cherished — justice, freedom, sincerity, joy, service, humility, and integrity. These are not abstract ideals. They are the lived experiences of every Msongari girl. We speak out against injustice, we think independently, we walk in truth, we laugh often, we serve generously, we lead with humility, and we choose what is right even when it is not easy. These values root us. They remind us that greatness begins with character, not credentials. They remind us that the strongest voices are not always the loudest — but often the most sincere.

This past season, our girls have given us every reason to celebrate. From local festivals to global arenas, they have risen — not just with talent, but with tenacity. At the Kenya Drama and Film Festival Nationals, our feature film Dilute ranked third nationally, while our powerful documentary Silent Struggle clinched first place. To top it off, one of our own Sasha Nyawira walked away with the award for Best Female Actress — a testament not only to her skill, but to the power of stories that matter. In the Kenya Music Festival, a solo song from one of our shining stars Taffi Mannara made it all the way to the Nationals, her voice carrying with it the heart of a community that believes in expression, emotion, and excellence.

In the realm of science and innovation, our girls proved that equations and beakers are no match for curiosity and creativity. Our chemistry project by Angela Ouko, Tunu Mandi & Ivy Mwendwa reached the Kenya Science and Engineering Fair Nationals. The message is clear — our girls don’t just memorize formulas. They solve problems. They ask bold questions. They explore.

Meanwhile, the global stage beckons. Our World Scholars Cup team has qualified for the Champions Cup in Yale this November — a huge milestone that reflects not only academic prowess but global awareness and collaborative spirit. We are proud, not only because they will carry the Loreto name across oceans, but because they embody what it means to learn with passion and rise with purpose.

And when it comes to sports, Msongari girls continue to show that strength, agility, and grace are part of the package. At the recent IPSSA soccer tournament, our team secured second place — proving once again that whether in boots or blazers, our girls show up and show out.

We are also thrilled to announce the official launch of our A-Level programme this September — an exciting new chapter in our academic journey. This initiative marks our deepening commitment to provide globally competitive education while remaining firmly rooted in our mission. It’s one more way we are enabling our girls to aim higher, dream bolder, and rise beyond limitations.

Through it all, what truly makes our school exceptional is not just our awards or achievements — impressive as they are — but the invisible threads that tie everything together: the early morning devotions, the shared laughter during lunch breaks, the quiet determination in the library corners, the courageous voices on assembly stages. Greatness at Msongari isn’t a prize; it’s a practice.

As we look to the future, we do so with hope and confidence. To the Class of 2025, you are the next chapter in this story of rising. You have faced many challenges and overcome many hurdles, and you now stand on the brink of your own greatness. These final months of preparation are not just about exams, but about emerging stronger, wiser, and ready to serve. Revise with diligence, lean on your values, support one another, and remember that every great woman once stood where you are now — nervous, hopeful, unsure, but determined.

So go on, write your story with courage. Rise with grace. And when in doubt, remember: deep roots allow tall trees to sway in the storm but never fall. You are those trees. Planted with purpose. Rising with conviction.

In the words of Mary Ward, “Do good, and do it well.” At Loreto Convent Msongari, we do both. Because we are rooted in values — and rising to greatness.
